Global Sikh Council strongly condemns the attack on Sikhs in New York
Two Sikhs were recently attacked in the Richmond Hill area of New York (USA). They were robbed, beaten, and had their turbans ripped off. It may be recalled that a 70-year-old Nirmal Singh was also attacked and seriously injured in the same area last week.
Global Sikh Council is deeply concerned about the increasing number of violent incidents that possibly are hate crimes also. The Sikh community is a peace-loving community and has always been instrumental in the development of the countries where they live.
We strongly demand to make a thorough investigation into the incidents. Culprits should be brought to justice. Above all, an awareness campaign should be designed by US authorities that can help the larger public to know about Sikhs and their religion.
Hate crimes should not be tolerated and can be dealt with speedy justice along with educating the masses.
ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਵਲੋਂ ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਸਖਤ ਨਿਖੇਧੀ
ਨਿਊਯਾਰਕ (ਅਮਰੀਕਾ) ਦੇ ਰਿਚਮੰਡ ਹਿੱਲ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਦੋ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਰਕੁੱਟ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ, ਲੁੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੱਗਾਂ ਵੀ ਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ । ਇਥੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਖਾਸ ਜਿਕਰਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ ਇਕ 70 ਸਾਲਾ ਬਜੁਰਗ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਖਮੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈਕੇ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਨਫਰਤੀ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਇਕ ਸ਼ਾਤੀ ਪਸੰਦ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ , ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਉਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਇਸ ਮੰਦਭਾਗੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪੁਰਜੋਰ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਵੀ ਮੰਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਪਰਾਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਟਹਿਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਜਾਵੇ ।
ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਕ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਰਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।
ਨਫਰਤੀ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਬਰਦਾਸ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਿ ਜਲਦੀ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਪਟਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ । ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇ ।
