The Global Sikh Council (GSC) has welcomed the historic judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India directing all States and Union Territories to ensure the full implementation of the Anand Marriage Act. This landmark verdict secures the legal recognition of Sikh marriages solemnized through Anand Karaj, ending decades of uncertainty and reaffirming the distinct identity of the Sikh community.
Amrit Pal Singh Sachdeva, President of the Global Sikh Council, expressed gratitude on behalf of the global Sikh community:
“This judgment is a vindication of our faith and identity. For too long, Sikh couples were compelled to register their marriages under laws that did not reflect our sacred traditions. Today, the Supreme Court has upheld the sanctity of Anand Karaj, giving every Sikh family the dignity and recognition they rightfully deserve.”
The Global Sikh Council has called upon all State governments and Union Territories to:
• Immediately frame and notify rules for registration under the Anand Marriage Act.
• Equip local authorities with the necessary systems to register Anand Karaj ceremonies.
• Disseminate awareness among Sikh communities regarding their rights under the Act.
Mr. Sachdeva further added:
“This ruling is not merely legal—it is moral and spiritual recognition. We urge governments to act swiftly and faithfully so that this verdict is implemented in practice, not just on paper.”
The Global Sikh Council reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with government agencies, Sikh institutions, and civil society to monitor compliance and assist Sikh families in exercising their rights under the Act.

ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ (GSC) ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਨਿਆਂਪਾਲਿਕਾ (ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ) ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅਨੰਦ ਵਿਆਹ ਐਕਟ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦਾ ਤਹਿ ਦਿਲੋਂ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ (ਲਾਂਵਾਂ) ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਆਹ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨਕ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ।
*ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਚਦੇਵਾ*, ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ, ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਨੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ:
“ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਦੀ ਪੂਸ਼ਟੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਹੁਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਰਿਵਾਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ, ਹੋਰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਹੇਠ ਵਿਆਹ ਰਜਿਸਟਰ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਅੱਜ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਦੀ ਪਵਿਤਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਹਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਦਿਤੀ ਹੈ।”
ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕਣ:
ਅਨੰਦ ਵਿਆਹ ਐਕਟ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਨਿਯਮ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ।
ਸਥਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਦੀ ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੇ ਸਾਧਨ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾਣ।
ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਚਲਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ।
ਸਚਦੇਵਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ:
“ਇਹ ਸਿਰਫ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਾਂਸਕ੍ਰਿਤਿਕ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਵੀ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ ਕਾਗਜ਼ੀ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ, ਬਲਕਿ ਜਮੀਨੀ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਅਤੇ ਇਮਾਨਦਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਨ।”
ਗਲੋਬਲ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਨੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿਵਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ, ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਸਮਾਜ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਕਰੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ।
